Playoffs Start Today: It’s Jim Mora’s favorite time of the year, as the playoffs get underway today. The NFL Playoffs? Not quite…but the Atlantic League postseason kicks off as the Patriots take on the Revolution and the Ducks square off against the Riversharks.

Traded For Themselves: Apparently, many of the players I’ve told you about in recent weeks that were traded to the Atlantic League from other independent leagues are being traded back — for themselves. Here’s a quick list…

American Association:

PENSACOLA PELICANS-Acquired LHP Dan Smith from Southern Maryland (Atlantic) to complete an Aug. 29 trade.

SHREVEPORT SPORTS-Acquired INF Ron Fenwick from Lancaster (Atlantic) to complete an Aug. 29 trade.

SIOUX FALLS CANARIES-Acquired RHP Pat Mahomes from Southern Maryland (Atlantic) to complete a Sept. 10 trade.

Can-Am League:

SUSSEX SKYHAWKS-Acquired RHP Matt Petrusek from Newark (Atlantic) to complete a Sept. 14 trade. – SS

OK I will start. I’m going with York. I would normally go with the team with the best overall record….oh wait, I forgot, they didn’t make it into the playoffs!

I am going with the Patriots to win it all. The team is super hot right now, and to me its all about timing. They got some really strong pitching and the line-up is on the money right now.

Wow, those trades are incredibly shady…

Mike & Scott,

Can you ask someone how these trades work. I always thought the contracts go through the last day of the season, but the Can-Am contracts must go for a period after the season and these "trades" allow the teams to reduce costs by passing the costs on to an AtL club. I don't think its shady, but just curious how the economics work.
