Jered Weaver Talks About the Atlantic League: If you look back at the statistics of the 2005 Camden Riversharks, you won’t see the name Jered Weaver.

But both he and Stephen Drew signed with the club that year after waiting until the last possible minute to sign with the respective big league clubs that drafted them.

Drew hit .427 with four home runs and 18 RBI in 19 games for signing with the Arizona Diamondbacks.

But Weaver never made an appearance for Camden before agreeing to terms with the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim.

During an exclusive chat in the visiting clubhouse of Yankee Stadium, Weaver and I recently discussed his first stint in professional baseball.

“There really wasn’t any experience, I was only there for a couple weeks,” he said.

“I wasn’t even on the roster, I didn’t even have a start there. It was just a couple days of traveling and a couple days of hotels, that’s all I really remember.”

Trujillo Retires: Word out of Newark is that relief pitcher J.J. Trujillo has retired. The former big leaguer was 2-6 with eight saves and a 4.14 ERA in 39 appearances for the Bears this season.

Unfortunately, my last memory of Trujillo will be of him being brought in by the Bears while the club was down 15 runs in Somerset last weekend. I remember thinking that there was a guy for that spot, but it wasn’t him. Perhaps he was feeling the same way. – Mike Ashmore
