Patterson Called Up: According to a source — a former opponent of ex-Lancaster P Scott Patterson — the New York Yankees are set to promote the pitcher to the big leagues.

Patterson spent a season and a half with the Barnstormers, and has no prior Major League experience.

Assuming it’s true, it’s another true Atlantic League success story…and one the league should be very proud of.

Prinz Signs, Van Hekken Returns: Ryan Dunleavy is reporting that Somerset Patriots P Bret Prinz has signed with the Oakland Athletics, and has been assigned to Triple-A Sacramento.

Prinz had an Atlantic League best 13 saves at the time of his departure, and had a miniscule 0.56 ERA.

Additionally, Dunleavy reports that P Andy Van Hekken is on his way back. Dunleavy has a very interesting take on the move — which I happen to agree with 100 percent — but he also points out a different issue the team has: rebuilding the back end of their bullpen.

Team officials have recently been in contact with at least two pitchers who were on the playoff roster last season but did not return for one reason or another, and its possible you may see one of them return shortly. – MA

Saul Solvenson would certainly do the job for Somerset as he has in the past. – Patriots fan

Does anyone know what happened to the Ducks bullpen? Long Island used 3 position players as pitchers in Saturday’s 14-3 loss to the Blue Crabs. Rob Cafiero(1B) pitched 4 innings and Dennis Donovan(INF) and Jaime Pogue(CAT) pitched one inning each.

The Patriots definitely need a good releiver and Solveson or Spiehs would get the job done

Don’t think it’s been mentioned yet, but the Crabs signed Joe Gannon on Sat. and he pitched eight innings for the win.

Great news for Prinz. Given the recent A’s bullpen woes, I bet he is on the big club within a few weeks. Patriots have a bunch of holes to fill, terrible that money issues are driving Minx to Italy.

Mike,
Just a question! How does it work when a major league club buys a players contract.Does the team and the league make out as well as the player when he signs his new contract.

There’s a fee that goes to the league…I do not believe the team benefits.

If a player is trying to go to Mexico or somewhere other than an affiliated team, the team can negotiate a buyout with the team interested in him.
