DP! DP!: (PR) The Bridgeport Bluefish of the Atlantic League of Professional Baseball announced the signing of left-handed pitchers Charlie Hesseltine and Ryan DiPietro. Hesseltine will be entering his third year in the Atlantic League while DiPietro will make the transition from the single-A level.
Hesseltine, 23, first entered professional baseball with the Atlantic City Surf in 2006. He went 3-2 with a 5.06 ERA in 21.1 innings with 14 strikeouts. Last year the left-hander split time between the York Revolution and the Road Warriors, finishing a combined 3-7 in 93.1 innings. He posted a 7.33 overall ERA in 27 appearances (11 starts) with 56 strikeouts.
DiPietro, 23, is a former sixth round draft choice of the Kansas City Royals in 2005. He has three years of professional baseball experience in the Royals system between the rookie level and single-A Burlington. Last season he made 28 appearances (12 starts) for Burlington going 5-10 with a 5.92 ERA with 86 strikeouts. Over his three seasons DiPietro has 150 strikeouts in 179 innings pitched.
Both pitchers are natives of Connecticut. Hesseltine resides in Meriden, CT while DiPietro was born in New Britain, CT and graduated from Eastern CT State University.
