Nannini Released: Because it just wouldn’t be a day in the Atlantic League without a Lancaster Barnstormers roster move, Jason Guarente is reporting that the club has canned P Mike Nannini.

He was 1-3 with a 5.10 ERA in six appearances, but had 22 walks compared to 16 strikeouts.

No word on if Rick Wise plans to activate himself… – MA

Stanchak’s Take: I don’t understand what the Barnstormers are thinking. They keep releasing guys because they aren’t playing well, but then go into a panic mode. They sign guys with no professional experience and activate their manager, who hasn’t played in 16 years and hit .225 that last season. There are PLENTY of very good players out there and it seems as if Lancaster is not finding them.

Mike and I will hook you up with these players if you want. This isn’t out of pity, but it just makes the league look bad what’s going on — plus, you’re not winning. Heck, if Tommy John can ask Mike and I if we’d suit up, why not Von Hayes?

Davis Update: Former Camden Riversharks catcher Ben Davis launched a game-winning, walk-off home run last night for the Baltimore Orioles’ Triple-A team in Norfolk. It was his first homer since being called up from Double-A, Bowie. – Scott Stanchak

I have to agree with Scott…what are the Barnstormers thinking. I thought the Glenn Murray activation was rather odd but at least he’s younger. This activation of coaches just for “a body” is stupid. You can’t tell me there arent players somewhere that we can find? Practically giving up with more than a month until the second half begins? What exactly kind of message is that to the fans?

Good Point! Has anybody signed Peter Bergeron? Wasn’t he looking for a job this past winter? Would be a big upgrade from some of the other options.

Yes Bergeron is one guy that comes to mind.
