Mattox Out, Magrane In For Pats: Ryan Dunleavy of The Courier News is reporting that the Somerset Patriots have released P D.J. Mattox and signed P Jim Magrane.

Magrane was recently released by the Long Island Ducks, and the numbers were ugly: 0-2 in three starts with a 10.38 ERA in 13 innings pitched. The Atlantic League was hitting .397 off of him.

But his last start came in Somerset, and apparently team officials saw something that made them feel like it was worth giving him a shot.

As for Mattox, he was 0-2 with a 7.80 ERA in four starts. He walked more batters than he struck out — including eight walks compared to two strikeouts in his last two starts — and the league was hitting .323 off of him. – Mike Ashmore

as a fan who saw last weekends ducks and bluefish series….. it is SOOOOOO TRUE the Ray Navarrete had a huge series at the plate….the one thing that I did notice, is that he had no idea how to run the bases or play defense….he will definitely get picked up if he brings the rest of his game up to par….
