Peeples Court: According to Jason Guarente’s blog, the Lancaster Barnstormers have released veteran P Ross Peeples.
Peeples made 97 appearances in a Barnstormers uniform, which according to Guarente is a franchise high.
The team has certainly made some interesting moves so far: cutting one of the best players in the league out of spring training, releasing a big leaguer with a World Series ring, and now getting rid of one of the more reliable southpaws in the league. – MA
Stanchak’s Addition: I just got back from Newark, where I spoke with two of the Barnstormer’s top stars: Pitcher Zach Parker and Outfielder Michael Woods. I also spoke with skipper Von Hayes. Next week I’ll have features on Parker and Woods. But…
Speaking of Peeples: “It’s definitely a big loss, especially with how depleted out pitching staff is now,” Parker said. “He was a great teammate the last year and a great guy in the clubhouse.”
Also, newly signed arm Jeff Muessig was supposed to start tonight, but Hayes said some “medical stuff got in the way” and now he won’t be taking the mound. Not good for an already short staff. – Scott Stanchak
To Be Fair…: New Blue Crabs P Brian Shackelford was never charged in the incident that was referred to yesterday. The point I was trying to make was that, similar to Newark’s Randall Simon, whether you’re charged or not, that’s what most people are going to remember him for.
Vasquez Working Out In Somerset: P Jorge Vasquez was scheduled to throw a bullpen session for the Somerset Patriots today. Vasquez has Major League experience with the Kansas City Royals and Atlanta Braves, and was recommended by INF Teuris Olivares. – Mike Ashmore
