Brownlie Talks Tomorrow: Was able to catch up with former Newark Bears P Bobby Brownlie here in Trenton. We’ll have him tomorrow.

Just to show that the Atlantic League is still on my mind when I do the Eastern League stuff, I was legitimately pissed off to find out that Brownlie wouldn’t be pitching during the series in Trenton. It’s a four-game series, and he pitched yesterday.

Simontacchi’s A Duck: It feels like just last year that this guy gave me a personal tour of the home clubhouse at RFK Stadium before I interviewed him for about a half an hour.

But Jason Simontacchi, the former big leaguer and Bluefish pitcher is back in the league with the Long Island Ducks, back with former pitching coach Dave LaPoint.

I have pleeeeeeeeeenty of quotes from him, so expect those in the near future.

More Fish In Pond: The Bridgeport Bluefish added four players to their roster, including a familiar name.

The club re-signed pitcher Matt Ford, a former third-round draft pick of the Toronto Blue Jays. Ford, who was traded by the Revolution to the Bluefish last season, was once the Milwaukee Brewers’ number two left-handed prospect. He appeared in 25 games for them, going 0-3 with a 4.33 ERA.

Bridgeport also inked catcher Brian Peterson and pitchers Barry Hertzler and Mike Connolly.

Peterson has played for the Cleveland Indians, Cincinnati Reds, Detroit Tigers, Houston Astros and Pittsburgh Pirates organizations, reaching Double-A last year.

Hertzler, a former 11th-round draft pick of the Boston Red Sox, spent last season in Triple-A, posting a 4-2 record.

Connolly played in the Pirates and Kansas City Royals organization. He spent last year in Double-A. – Scott Stanchak

Nettles Father Doing Well: This Star-Ledger story says that Graig Nettles, Yankees legend and father of former Patriots and current Bowie Baysox 3B Jeff Nettles, is “positive and upbeat” after undergoing surgery for prostate cancer on Monday.

Brian Warren Update: An article in The Enterprise updates Bluefish fans on what Brian Warren’s been up to since leaving the team after last season. – Mike Ashmore, mashmore98 AT gmail.com

Speaking Of Jeff Nettles: Here’s a shot of the former Somerset Patriots third baseman in his new Bowie Baysox uni.

So far this season, Nettles is batting .222 with two doubles and three RBI in 27 at-bats. – Scott Stanchak

Well, now that he’s an O’s farmhand I guess he’s bound for the Rev’s one day.

That’s great news about Graig Nettles. I wish he, Jeff and the Nettles family all the best!
