Nettles Father Has Prostate Cancer: Crappy news out of the New York Post, as Yankees legend Graig Nettles, father of long time Somerset Patriots 3B Jeff Nettles, revealed he’s been diagnosed with prostate cancer.

“I was diagnosed the day before Thanksgiving,” Nettles told The Post yesterday. “They wanted to do it at the end of January but I wanted to come to [spring training]. They said that was OK because it’s slow moving and there was no rush to do it.”

Nettles, 63, made occasional appearances at Commerce Bank Ballpark during Jeff’s tenure in Somerset. I was fortunate enough to speak to him on several occasions, and wish him nothing but the best.

Blue Crabs Add Crozier, Will Add More: According to a SoMdNews.com article, the Blue Crabs have added INF Eric Crozier.

‘‘I am excited to finally have Crozier’s contract in,” manager Butch Hobson told them. ‘‘I have heard good things about him. He is a veteran guy who has played with an organization. We hope that he can be a leader and a good clubhouse guy.”

According to various sources, the team has agreed with at least three more players. When I can confirm this with Hobson — hopefully Monday — I will write it here. I guess the team isn’t doing much in the way of press releases, so there really isn’t anything to wait for if contracts are signed.
