Revolution Bring In Two Big Leaguers: The York Revolution have brought in the first two players new to the league this season that have big league time. According to Jeff Johnson’s Hot Corner blog, P Aaron Myette and P Corey Thurman have inked deals with the Revs.
Note: I have no idea why this entry was originally incomplete…I thought I saved a later draft but apparently did not. Sorry about that. – Mike Ashmore
Fielder To Manage Surf: One of our readers stepped up with info that former big leaguer Cecil Fielder will be named the new manager of former Atlantic League franchise, the Atlantic City Surf. Fielder’s name was mentioned with some of the league’s openings this season, namely the York Revoltion.
The Surf press release says they’ll make the announcement on February 26th. They do offer this hint though, “A former New York Yankee, the new manager spent parts of 13 seasons in the major leagues and is one of the top 100 home run hitters in baseball history.”
My guess is it’s not Darryl Strawberry, Tino Martinez or Chili Davis. Oh how I’d love to add Kevin Maas to that list, but he only had 65 home runs in six seasons. That’s still 65 more home runs than I’ll ever hit in the bigs. – Scott Stanchak
