Rojas Signs With Nashua: From the “how the hell did that happen” department, Tom King of The Nashua Telegraph reports that the Can-Am League’s Nashua Pride have signed C Tommy Rojas.

Rojas recently underwent knee surgery, and I think everyone was under the impression that he’d be returning to the Bluefish, but not behind the plate. Ummm, apparently not.

According to the article, Rojas’ rights reverted back to Nashua. Rojas is still listed on the disabled list on Bridgeport’s roster.

Radmanovich Halfway to 500: As the baseball world focuses on the home run milestones being approached by Barry Bonds and Alex Rodriguez, it seems the accomplishments of former Patriots OF Ryan Radmanovich have been overlooked.

But with two home runs for the Edmonton Cracker Cats on Saturday, he reached the 250 career home runs milestone, according to a team release.

More than a third of those longballs (87) came in a Patriots uniform. There are more than a few people who think he might get a few more with Somerset…

Brownlie Article: Former Newark P Bobby Brownlie was the subject of this recent feature in the Akron Beacon Journal. The ex-Cubs prospect pitched well, but got a no-decision in his first start for the Double-A Aeros.

Bears Getting National Attention: The Newark Bears were recently recognized by MinorLeagueDugout.com as having the “Promotion of the Day.”

Friday’s “Weird NJ Night” took home the honors. Weird NJ is a magazine that details haunted places and otherwise odd things that you can find in the state. As someone who was dragged into several of these adventures by my friends and spent one night looking for a “pig lady” in the woods, I can tell you that…ummm, the magazine is accurately titled.

Even The Umpires Are Getting Press: Atlantic League umpire Daniel Blanton was the subject of this recent article in the Lufkin Daily News. Despite the untapped gold mine that was former ump Bruce Martin, this is the first story about an AL ump that I can recall seeing. – Mike Ashmore, mashmore98@gmail.com

Swindle Update: Here’s an update on former Newark Bears pitcher R.J. Swindle
“After posting a 0.93 ERA with 10 Saves, making 20 appearances (29 IP), striking out 37 and walking only 5 (2 of them IBB) and holding lefties to a ridiculous .065 BA (2 for 34,with 22 Ks), Swindle has been promoted to Clearwater (High A) for the Phillies. He will join fellow Newark Bear pitcher JJ Trujillo who was sent down to Clearwater from Reading a few weeks ago.” – Scott Stanchak

It isn’t relevant to the Atlantic League, but I still think it’s an interesting link…

Wanna hear a funny Cooperstown story?

I have one friend (and her boyfriend) from Bridgeport who was planning a visit to HOF for the induction (she’s a huge Ripken fan). I heard about a month or so ago that friends of mine from Pittsburgh were also going. So as a goof, I emailed the Pittsburgh friend a photo of my Bridgeport friends, and I forwarded the photo of the Pittsburgh friends to the Bridgeport couple, and I said, again, as a goof, “look for them!”.

Yesterday morning, I got a text message from my Bridgeport friend. Guess who sat next to them, and it was a TOTALLY RANDOM thing? My Pittsburgh friends! They just sat down, said hello to the people next to them….and suddenly realized “hey, you’re Sheryl’s friends!”

I swear, this world is just getting smaller by the minute!!!!
