Felix Jose Reportedly Took Steroids: According to this York Daily Record article, two Mexican news sites have reported that new Barnstormers OF Felix Jose was banned from playing in Mexico after testing positive for steroid use.

Jose, who went 1-for-5 in his Lancaster debut last night, has 23 seasons in professional baseball and has suited up for the Athletics, Cardinals, Royals, Yankees and Diamondbacks in the big leagues.

Phelps Out Indefinitely: Newark Bears P Travis Phelps missed his start last night, and was replaced by Bobby Brownlie, after being diagnosed with mononucleosis. No word on when the former big leaguer will return, but that’s a big loss for the Bears starting rotation.

I spoke to Bears to pitching coach Steve Foucault last night before I filled in on the Patriots radio broadcast, and the list of available names out of the bullpen that he gave me wasn’t a long one; and it included Delvis Pacheco, who’s currently in the team’s rotation. Pacheco got into the game last night, so there’s no word on whether he’ll be ready for his next start or of the team is looking to sign someone to bolster their staff.

Leathers Likely Headed To DL; Cannon to Taiwan: I also spoke to Patriots pitching coach Brett Jodie last night, and he indicated that INF Todd Leathers is likely headed to the disabled list with what appears to be a chipped bone in his hand.

Also, the team has lost P Jon Cannon, who has left for Taiwan. Brandon Knight will take his place in the starting rotation and will probably get the nod on Wednesday. – Mike Ashmore

Hey Mike. Caught a few innings of you doing the Somerset game last night. Nice job.

Thank you. I hadn’t been in the booth to call a game since Opening Day in 2005, so it took a little while to get the rust off. Other than that, I think it went pretty well.

Wish I’da known you were doing that. I would’ve listened online.

Patriots sweep the Bears. Nice start to the second half and they showed a boatload of offense.

With 3 against the Road Warriors and 3 against York, Somerset should be starting the second half at least 7-2.
