SomerStuff: To update my previous story, the Somerset Patriots have agreed to terms with former New York Mets INF Danny Garcia.

He appeared in 77 MLB games for the Mets in 2003 and 2004, playing all but one at second base. I’d assume this means that Teuris Olivares will be the team’s everyday shortstop, considering he has experience at second as well.

It sounds like Somerset’s going to be busy this week, so you’re going to want keep checking back here every day to find out who they’ve signed next.

The team’s starting infield is nearly set, with Jeff Nettles, Olivares, Garcia and a mystery man at first base. Keep in mind that Todd Leathers is slated to be the every day DH, so it isn’t him, although Brett Jodie told me last week that he’d be playing “a little bit of first.”

One player you aren’t likely to hear about any time soon is P Tim Bausher, who appeared at the team’s tryout on Saturday. Team officials told me today that they’ve yet to hear back from his representatives.

Things I’m Working On: When International Performance Baseball held their World Free Agent Spring Training a few weeks ago, almost every independent league was represented. But the Atlantic League was nowhere to be found. Why? Former Atlantic Leaguer Matt Stark runs IPB, and he gave me the skinny. Again, stay tuned… – Ashmore
