AL Alums Signing Everywhere: Former Newark Bears INF Pete Maestrales has signed with the Baltimore Orioles.

Atlantic City Surf slugger Joe Jianetti has signed with the Detroit Tigers.

Ben Weber, who apparently hasn’t retired after all, instead signed with the Houston Astros. He pitched in a few games for the Surf last season.

Larry Barnes signed with the Los Angeles Dodgers, re-joining the organization that gave him a chance in the big leagues a few years ago. Another ex-Patriot, Brandon Puffer, has inked a deal with the Pittsburgh Pirates. – Mike Ashmore, mashmore@patriotsbaseball.com

I saw from your personal blog that you have a Jack Cust Jr. story in the works. I saw him playing in the Texas League seven years ago and he was being billed – along with Keith Ginter – as sure-thing Major-League stars. Neither one has panned out yet as a regular in the big leagues but they are both paying their dues and getting big-league at-bats. Maybe stardom is out of their reach but the dream is still there.

Cust has pretty much every minor league accolade a player can have, so it’s easy to believe that the expectations were as high as they were for him.

I think getting traded by Arizona really derailed his career, he was really progressing nicely with them.
