January 29, 2007 – NEWARK, NJ – January 29, 2007 – The Newark Bears Professional Baseball Club have announced they will hold open tryouts at Bears & Eagles Riverfront Stadium on Saturday, March 31 at 9:00 am. The admission fee for the open tryout is $40.

Players are to report to The Den at 8:00 am for registration. Participants must be high school graduates and at least 18 years of age. All those present should provide their career statistics and must supply their glove, baseball cleats, and baseball pants. All participants will be required to sign a release form before trying out for the team.

First year Bears Manager and former major league infielder Wayne Krenchicki will be on hand to evaluate the players at the ballpark along with Bears General Manager John Brandt.

The Bears most respected signing from the open tryouts was left-handed pitcher Steve Crampton who pitched for the team in 2004 and 2005. In 2004, the Paterson, New Jersey native appeared in a team high 46 games and set career highs with six wins and 68 strikeouts en route to being named Bears Pitcher of the Year.

This will be the first season since 2004 tryouts are to be held at Bears & Eagles Riverfront Stadium. Last season, the Bears held joint tryouts with the Somerset Patriots at Commerce Bank Ballpark due to field construction, and the 2005 tryouts were cancelled due to inclement weather.
