Boosterbabe: my wife and I were food shopping Saturday night on Long Island and saw a similar display of dvds. I’ve been catching For The Love of The Game on cable quite often this summer. My all-time favorite movie probably pre-dates you. It’s Bang The Drum Slowly with DeNiro. A great flick filmed at Shea Stadium.

It’s a shame that Tim Cain’s temper got the best of him. He was actually pitching with some confidence and success his last few outings from the pen. Now a need to find some more pitching.
Speaking of Bang The Drum, it’s not only a great baseball movie but a top notch book of any kind to read. I enjoy it so much I’ve actually used that title as the name of a fantasy baseball team every year

It,s a shame about Cain. It sounds a little like Rodney Meyers melt down last year in Somerset.

I have to agree with my fellow Ducks fans about Bang The Drum Slowly. I especially liked Deniro,s role as the naive, dying catcher, such a different role then we are used to seeing.I also love Field Of Dreams, the final scene of Costner having a last catch with his dad always chokes me up.And i think Eight Men Out is also a terrific movie. I enjoyed D.B.Sweeney,s role as Shoeless Joe Jackson.

Whatever happened to the Road Warriors Elvin Nina and Brian Miller? I don’t see them on their **ahem** most up to date roster/

the “triple” meltdown by Long Island on Saturday was surreal. Honestly it was a total fiasco. Until 1 critical walk, the Long Island team was getting EVERY close play called in their favor, and it sure seems to those of us in A.C. that the home team pitcher gets a MUCH smaller strike zone.

Anyway – due to the on field shenanegins the “grand finale” by the Famous (formerly San Diego) Chicken was cancelled. Even though it was nothing near a sell out crowd, I would estimate half if not more of the fans in attendance were really enjoying it.

For, if I understand correctly, an 8 year Atlantic League and well seasoned in multiple teams veteren to literally continue to threaten and put hands on an umpire is totally inexcusable. Really. Okay, you were “given” 36 “gift” strike calls, including ones in the dirt. You weren’t given 1 after losing the strike zone completely. Meltdown????

One may even get the impression that the Surf are intentionally being held back by officials, and the other teams are aware and take advantage

You forgot to mention that the current Barnstormer slide is calculated to give Camden a playoff spot, since Lancaster has a hard time with AC. And black helicopters taking off from Bader Field are stealing signs from Surf catchers.

I dunno about all this conspiracy theory stuff, but it was nice to see the Surf sweep Lancaster after blowing it with the Road Warriors.

I think the Surf and Patriots are in similar boats with plagued pitching staff and injuries in the position players.

WHAT AN ABSOLUTE JOKE TO CONFIDENTLY CLAIM THAT THE SURF’S PROFESSIONAL BASEBALL GAMES ARE FIXED AGAINST THE TEAM. PIPE DOWN OLIVER STONE! THERE ARE NO CONSPIRACIES BY UMPIRES TO GIVE YOUR TEAM THE SHORT END OF THE STICK…GROW UP.

Brian Miller last appeared in a game for the Road Warriors on 6/29 and was on the roster until the 7/5 version. Elvin Nina was put on the disabled list on 7/19 and was listed on the roster until this past version.

I think there’s a conspiracy against me personally. I was supposed to win the lottery but the air in the machine pushed the balls that had my numbers away from the slot, allowing other numbers to come out. I find it a joke when people claim there’s a conspiracy against their team. You have to go out and win and not blame umpires, fans, weather, toilet paper or anything for your own lack of execution. That’s why these guys are paid professionals while the fans whine about conspiracies. As for Cain, there’s no excuse for what he did.

The Ducks/Bears game tonight has been postponed and will be made up on this Thursday as a doubleheader.

For those of you who enjoyed the Lehigh Valley stories here’s a link for an article on the Grays. They were the traveling team in the Can-Am League last season, before the Nashua Pride showed up.

b-fish fan – I wish you’d have stopped by to say Hi!

The wind was definitely something that night. I think that both outfields suffered from misjudging flys.

As for the ongoing “conspiracy” – unless somehow the league determined to have 5 pitchers disabled, 1 called up to majors, and 1 (or maybe 2 depending upon versions) retire….and plagued short staff in the positions…..

I think the Surf and Patriots are in similar situations. Both have ailing and shortened pitching staffs, and have had to be creative with rearranging the position players due to injury.

I mean, come on….the league doesn’t control who does and doesn’t get signed by individual teams.

as of right now and seeing all of the teams in the league.i would be shocked if the bluefish dont win the championship.they have the best pitching by far.i predict divisional playoff bluefish over ducks 2 games to 0.league championship bluefish 3 games to 1 over the barnstormers.
