Ducks Get Their Mann: The Long Island Ducks have signed P Jim Mann to a contract. Mann has big league time with the Mets and Pirates and pitched with Nashua last season. He was picked up by the Red Sox and finished the season up with Double-A Portland. – Mike Ashmore

Anyone else get the sense that if the playoffs started tomorrow, the Ducks would fill in all the holes with Road Warriors players?

Just got back from the Bears / Bluefish game in Newark Saturday night. This game included a run scoring triple play (don’t ask me to explain it. The Umps could not explain it to Chris Jones!), the ejection of Victor Rodriguez for throw his equipment down after a called 3rd strike, Jones’ subsequet ejection for agruing V-Rods ejection and catcher Chris Torres had to leave the game after Nelson Bryant hit him in the arm with his back swing. On the first pitch after Victor Valenica replaced Torres, pitcher Ernie Delgado hurt himself (groin?) and has to be replaced by Silvo Censale!

Overall, it was a beautiful day at the ballpark and the crowd was a little bigger than usual and into the game! Brought the wife and child and they had a ball!
Heading back (by myself) on Sunday afternoon.

PS: Does anyone know what happened to Buzz Hanrahan? The B-Fish really need to update their online roster!

Seems like there have been an abundance of triple plays this season in the Atlantic League. A run-scoring triple play is certainly possible, but I’d have to know exactly what the scenario was…

The ducks own the rights to some of those road warriors players and have assigned them to the traveling team (i.e. Bryan Geolz). If they need them back they take them, they’re pretty much just on loan, per say a farm team.

Buzz Hanahan is on the DL for the Bluefish. Yes I know they do need to update their roster more often.

Buzz has had shoulder surgery and is out for the season according to Buzz himself. A friend of mine knows him from when he played at Reading and spoke to Buzz a couple weeks ago.

You could say it’s been a “light year” for Buzz.

Yeah, I brought Buzz dinner last Sunday. He was indeed hurting and he was very disappointed at the season…35 games was a lot less than he had in mind for himself this year. Great guy, NICE person…glad to have gotten to know him and miss him tremendously on the field. (not to mention, an overall terrific presence–no one could ever have a negative word to say about Buzz Hannahan). He’s gone home to Minnesota for rehab. He told me 16 weeks at least. He’s got a hard road ahead but the docs are confident he will play again next year.

It wasn’t rotator cuff, it was his labrum–left shoulder. (the fact that it’s his non-throwing arm is a plus)
