Ducks On Fire: The Long Island Ducks are one of the hottest teams in the league right now, having won 12 straight after last night’s, 1-0, victory over the Atlantic City Surf last night. Ducks starter Tony Fiore picked up his fifth win of the season — no losses to go with those five wins.

Over the last 10 games, Erik Almonte has appeared in all 10, batting .351 with 13 hits, 8 runs and 9 RBI. Bucky Jacobson has two home runs and Carlos Hernandez, who’s appeared in nine of the games, is batting .400 with 10 RBI, 14 hits and 10 runs scored.

Fiore has three wins during the span, as Pat Mahomes and Bill Pulsipher have two apiece. – Scott Stanchak.

Don’t Ask,

I dont think Mike is scared to say something, he mentioned how Burt was struggling… it obviously was the title of the piece. And Lyle said he is a raw player (he has only a short season and 1 reg. season in professional ball) and how do you train raw players? You let them play…let them face pitchers at this level, and let them find their groove…and obv Lyle thinks that his defense on the field is very good. I’ve seen that kid make plays I didnt think were possible. So Mike, I am pretty much saying that i dont agree that you are scared or whatnot to ask questions… the only thing was the article needed a bit more quotes, like you said.

keep up the good work!

ps- good idea about the wives thing Jon, would be interesting to see what they have to say about the life and their husbands. I see them before the game down at right field talking to their husbands while they stretch… have wondered about that too.

the ducks are hot indeed mike…saw the 1-0 game last night. now that the pitching has caught up to the hitting, they;re scary. any AL lineup with jacobsen, rodriguez and gonzalez in the middle is nuts…then sprinkle in guys like pena and almonte and hernandez…they;re going to be tough to beat.

it’s been a real pleasure to watch the Ducks during this streak- the quality of the pitching has been more fun to watch than the betwwen inning activities- sure beats some of the typical over 3 hr games with as many walks given up as hits- GO DUCKS

it would be cool if the regular standings also included updated wild card standings. With LI and Lancaster both looking like the first half was no fluke, there might be 2 wild card teams. I’d like to watch those races unfold too.

My only concern with the Ducks is that they have absolutely ZERO backup infield depth so I hope ALmonte, Pena and hernandez dont wear out cause they have absolutely no one on the bench who can play those postions even for one game. i hope they ar elloking to add someone to that role or maybe Kevin Baez will come out of retirement

Greg Conners can play some third so we’ll probably see him at that position and the other guys rotated to get some rest. Regardless, I would make a case that this is one of if not the best teams in league history. The combination of speed, power, defense and pitching is frightening. Let’s see what happens come playoff time but right now they are definitely worth the price of admission.

they list 6 guys on their roster as infielders, plus connors makes 7. That seems like enough for now. Being the Ducks though, I’m sure theyre gonna add players as the playoffs approach.

Brad King can play 1st, as he did in the all-star game.

Rob Caferio can potentially fill in as well.

Andy Van Hekken pitcher for Somerset was just signed by KC AAA omaha during the game tonight.
