SANDEL HOMERS: Congratlations to Patriots infielder George Sandel for hitting his second professional home run last night, somehow managing to overshadow a six-RBI performance by Larry Barnes in Somerset’s 10-6 win in Lancaster. I’d at least think about trading the no-hitter to see a Sandel homer.

Barnstormers Lose Two: C Alex Derhak was shipped off to Gateway of the Frontier League for future considerations and INF Kris Dufner was assigned to the Road Warriors.

Bizarro Pizarro: The AP lists the Melvin Pizarro transaction as “Sold the contract of P Melvin Pizarro to the Road Warriors.”

How can you sell the contract of a player that was being loaned to you? How can you sell the contract of a player to another team in the same league?

Can’t wait until 2007 when the Road Warriors are gone again. I have the utmost respect for the guys on the team, but the team being around leads to a lot of confusing and interesting situations such as this one…

Frye Puts It Perfectly: “I would say most of the guys on the team wouldn’t even remember who Paxton Crawford was, that’s how little he was there,” former second baseman Jeff Frye told the Boston Herald.

Did You Know: Everyone knows about the no-hitter by now, but a one-hitter and a three-hitter was the closest anyone else has come to getting one this year. And it’s the same pitcher who threw both of them…would you believe that it’s Joe Gannon, owner of the league’s second no-hitter?

Gannon chucked a one-hitter on June 6th (in Somerset of all places) in a 4-2 loss. The three-hitter came two starts earlier on May 25th against Lancaster in a 4-2 win.

Huggins Has Longest Streak: Now that Mel Stocker’s hitting streak ended at 25, who might be wondering who has the longest active streak. It’s Road Warriors 1B Mike Huggins, who’s gotten a hit in 11 straight games.

Buchanan Signs: OF Brian Buchanan, who was reportedly offered a contract by Somerset, instead signed with the St. Paul Saints of the American Association. No doubt that he can make way more money there based on their salary guidelines. For example, Brian Becker is making somewhere in the vicinity of double the AL “max” over there.

Cards Wanted: I’m trying to boost my Atlantic League card collection, if anyone has any extra team sets, shoot me an e-mail (mashmore@patriotsbaseball.com) and we can figure something out. I’m not looking for duplicates, and here’s what I have as of now…

2000 Newark, 2002 Bridgeport, 2002 Somerset, 2003 Somerset, 2004 Bridgeport, 2004 Nashua, 2004 Somerset, 2005 Somerset, 2006 Lancaster

And yeah, don’t send me links to what’s on eBay, I know what’s on there already. – Mike Ashmore

No comment about the 16-3 abomination in Bridgeport last night. I watched every minute of it. I don’t need to relive that!

Burnham Watch: Gary went 0-3 with a walk and a sac rbi last night in Reading. His hitting streak is over at 13 consecutive games. (Another Reading player had a 13 game streak, as well..so he’s tied for that). Why do I care? I really don’t know!!!! 🙂

M-

Do you know if they will come out with 2006 somerset patriots cards?

3. AtlanticLeagueBaseball.com - June 25, 2006

I would assume so. They distributed a four card sheet as a giveaway recently, and the cards were made my “Choice,” which is a different company than what they usually use.

But I have no reason to think they wouldn’t come out with a set this year.

So the RW are gone in 2007? Is that because Southern Maryland’s team is coming aboard? Is York penciled in for 2008? Which team is mostly likely to get the axe in ’08? Or is there another team coming in?

Hey..where’s the anonymous person that said don’t be surprised if Jeremy Todd ends up w/ another team? My source for saying that he was “close to signing w/ Lancaster” was right on.

Drugs are just bad, you should try to use Herbal Alternatives as a temporary replacement to loose the dependance!
