Gonzalez Signs With Ducks: In a story first reported by The Courier-News’ Ryan Dunleavy earlier this afternoon, the Ducks have officially agreed to terms with OF Juan Gonzalez.

The 16 year big league vet is a two-time AL MVP and has 434 big league home runs to his credit, just 66 short of 500 – a number most consider to be a lock for the Hall of Fame.

That is the second largest total of MLB home runs that a player has brought to the Atlantic League, with Jose Canseco coming into Newark in 2001 with 446 longballs.

That, of course, isn’t the first time those two names have been linked, with Canseco accusing Gonzalez of steroid use in his book, “Juiced”

Gonzalez, who has denied those claims, reportedly had a minor league deal with the Boston Red Sox before that went away after he broke ties with his agent. Since then, he’s been mulling over some offers and working out in Puerto Rico.

Gonzalez is expected to be in uniform by June 6th, with his first home game being June 13th. For you Patriots fans out there, the Ducks come into town in late June.

Perez To Sharks: The AL has awarded to the rights of INF Jerson Perez to the Riversharks to complete an earlier trade for INF Lipso Nava. I was under the impression Perez is out for the year, so we’ll see what happens there. – Mike Ashmore

Scott – as long as they are “Omaha Steaks”, then that’s okay. Heck, from what I’ve been told the post game player spread @ A.C. has been top quality this year.

that’ll be the best 3-4-5 in atlantic league history by far. 2 former MLB all stars and a powerful jacobsen good grief.

Won’t last. Juan will be gone within a month, whether it be of his own doing or of an affiliate’s. Jacobsen is talking to Japan already as well.

it a question i ask myself about bluefish pitchers that always get picked up.if you were a gm do you pick up a guy like juan g who get picked up in a month or sign a very good player who will be there all year.

The benefits of signing a guy like Gonzalez are many. Not that the Ducks need much help at the gate, but he will help there. Secondly, he’ll help your team win while he is there, which is what baseball is supposed to be all about. But, and possibly most importantly, the guy is going to bring some cash your way when you sell his contract to an affiliated team.

Now, you don’t sign 25 Juan Gonzalez’s, because they’d be leaving left and right and you might not be able to replace them.

But, in my opinion, I can’t fault anyone for a signing like this.
