Nava Back In A.L.: Former Somerset Patriots and Camden Riversharks third baseman Lipso Nava is back in the Atlantic League, joining the Newark Bears after a long-awaited visa problem.

According to the club, they’re still awaiting visas for infielder Liu Rodriguez from Caracas, Venezuela, first baseman Francisco Santos from Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, and 2005 Bears Player of the Year outfielder Jose Herrera from Santo Domingo.

Getting those three additions to the club would be huge. – Scott Stanchak.

Moss Signs With Ducks: Hopefully this Moss doesn’t just play when he wants to. The Long Island Ducks have signed former big league P Damian Moss to a contract. Moss played for the Braves, Giants, Orioles and Devil Rays from 2001 to 2004. He made two appearances in the 2002 NLDS with Atlanta. It is worth noting that while with the Mariners organization last year, Moss was suspended for 15 games as part of MLB’s drug testing program.

A lot of people will have different opinions on this, but I applaud the Ducks for being willing to take some chances on guys to make their team better. Some guys work out (Armando Rios, whose name came up in the BALCO scandal) and some don’t (John Rocker, professional jackass) – but at least they’re constantly trying to put the best 25 guys on the field they can find.

AL Alumni Squad: I just got back from Trenton, where I was over there to cover Carl Pavano’s rehab start. If you want to read all about that and check out some audio, feel free to head on over to MikeAshmore.com.

However, the team they were playing, the Bowie Baysox, has four Atlantic League alums on their squad. Former Bears P Calvin Maduro, Former Pride P Jason Pearson and IF Pete Shier and former Surf IF Rayner Bautista are all on the Bowie squad. – Mike Ashmore

Jeff-you must be from Camden Riversharks country ’cause no one says Lipso’s name like that except for Kevin Casey-our announcer!

Had Eddy Ramos not left, they’d actually have been all right in the closer department. Granted, he’s not a Todd Erdos or Hector Almonte, but still…
