New Somerset Articles Posted: Either go online and check it out or pick up a copy of the paper, but my article previewing the position players and Scott’s article previewing the pitchers are now posted.

League Preview Article: Click here to check out a bare-bones version of my league preview. If you can find time for me to a write a full one with college classes, the Patriots open workouts and other plans for tonight, do tell.

Bluefish News: Good to see Rich Elliott of The Connecticut Post back on the Bluefish beat this year. Today, he writes that SP Pedro Borbon will not be joining the team due to a knee injury.

The story I’ve been keeping an eye on is the Jose Offerman saga, and it appears it will have a happy ending. Bluefish GM Charlie Dowd told the paper that he’s “fairly confident” that Offerman will join the team for a second stint, although he wouldn’t expected to suit up until the Bluefish home opener on May 3rd.

Also, Bridgeport continued their solid off-season by signing former big league P Luther Hackman. They also released INF Shane Hopper.

Hackman even has his own fan club at lutherized.com

Ducks Bring Back Hernandez: The Ducks have re-signed AL All-Star Carlos Hernandez and also officially announced the signing of OF Mel Stocker. Hernandez was a beast last year, finishing second to teammate Henry Rodriguez in the race for the AL batting crown.

First look at Road Warriors Roster: Ryan Dunleavy of The Courier News reports that the 2006 Road Warriors will feature some familiar faces this year.

He lists P Kyle Goldwater, P Jose Mieses, P Felix Rodriguez, SS Nick Ortiz, C Marcos Sanchez and OF Jason Bryan as players that will be on the team this year, as well as the three players (Modica, Martinez, Eickhorst) that he’d previously mentioned.

I guess the only mild surprise of that group would be Bryan, who put up some decent numbers with the Barnstormers last year. I still think that Martinez would be the first of the group to go somewhere, quite possibly back to Somerset, but Bryan would also be a candidate to get off the bus.

Griffiths To Frontier League: Former New York Mets, Houston Astros and Nashua Pride P Jeremy Griffiths signed with Kalamazoo of the Frontier League. Very nice, honest guy. He was having major trouble finding the strike zone last year, and I asked him about it and he genuinely didn’t seem to have an answer for why he was struggling. It’s hard to explain, but I felt kinda bad for him, it was like he was doing everything he could to fix the problem and he didn’t know what else to do. I’m not really supposed to root for people, but I was definitely hoping he did well when I saw him pitch against Somerset. He pretty much imploded and got released shortly thereafter. – Mike Ashmore

Surf Get New Radio Deal: According to a source, the Atlantic City Surf will be broadcasting all their home and away games on WLFR 91.7 FM and http://www.wlfr.fm for the 2006 season. This is on the campus of Richard Stockton College in Pomona. The broadcasters will be Mike DeDomenico/Mike Wolverton (away games) and John Leon (home games). – Scott Stanchak.
