Bears Welcome Back Jack: Solid press release headline by Joe Montefusco, P.R. Director of the Newark Bears.

As Mike told you yesterday, the Bears were close to bringing back a favorite and that name is Jack Santora. Santora played for Team Italy in the World Baseball Classic this past spring and then went to camp with the Los Angeles Dodgers. – Scott Stanchak

Former ‘Shark Canned: Former Camden OF Kyle Logan was released by the Joliet Jackhammers of the American Association yesterday.

Probably the best thing to come out of that news is that I can applaud the league for mostly steering clear of stupid team names. They even dropped “Pennsylvania” from the Road Warriors team this year. I’m just not sure I could get behind the “Saltdogs” or the “T-Bones.” – Mike Ashmore.

Patriots Sign Two More Arms: The Somerset Patriots feel they have enough arms now to start the season, signing former big-leaguer Jason Shiell, who last played with the Boston Red Sox in 2003 and went 2-0 with a 4.63 ERA in 17 games.

The club also signed right-hander Ben Crockett, who played in the Colorado Rockies organization, reaching Triple-A.

So who does that leave out? Well, no Justin Jensen, Mark DiFelice, Robert Marquez.

Surf Takes On Stockton?: According to a source, the Atlantic City Surf are negotiating with Richard Stockton College to have the school broadcast the team’s games this season. The source says that the team couldn’t reach a contract with a commercial radio station and this would be a win/win should all pieces fall into place. – Scott Stanchak.
