Bears Sign Three: The Newark Bears have brought back P Travis Wade and signed two other pitchers. The team signed the gigantic Joey Cole to a contract. The six foot, eight inch tall righty played for Camden last season. And they also signed New Jersey native Marc Sauer to a deal as well. Sauer sat out 2005 with a shoulder injury.

Former AL Guys: Kane Davis was waived by the Brewers and Hector Mercado was reassigned to minor league camp by the Tigers.

Former MLB Player Counter: I always keep track of players that are new to the league that bring MLB experience to it. Right now, ignoring Ducks pitching coach Dick Such’s 1970 season with the Washington Senators, the counter stands at two. The Long Island Ducks Erick Almonte played with the Yankees in 2001 and 2003 and the Newark Bears Doug Devore played with the Arizona Diamondbacks in 2004.

Barnstormer Bring One More In: The Lancaster Barnstormers are bringing in right-hander Cam Smith this year. The former Ducks and Patriots pitcher said today that he’s joining the club for 2006.

Modica Close To Signing: According to a source, Patriots pitcher Greg Modica had a strong showing in front of several major league scouts this past week. Pitching against the Cincinnati Reds, Modica tossed three innings of one-run, two-hit ball. Modica is expected to join the Patriots again this season and is being counted on in the middle of their rotation.

Ware Leaves Surf: Atlantic City Surf pitching coach Jeff Ware is leaving the club for a higher paying position with a short-season club, according to a source. – Scott Stanchak.
