Bears Sign Their First Two: The Newark Bears have made their first two signings of the season, bringing back their Player of the Year and Pitcher of the Year.

35 year-old Jose Herrera returns to the club after hitting .318 last season. The former Oakland Athletics outfielder will bring an 11-game hitting streak into the 2006 season.

Meanwhile, Pat Daneker returns to the club after his surprising 2005 season. The Pennsylvania native, who turned 30 this off-season, appears to have finally found a home in the Atlantic League after pitching for Camden, Pennsylvania and Somerset in seasons past. Daneker appeared in three games for the 1999 Chicago White Sox.

The Number One Duck: The Long Island Ducks have been running a promotion throughout the off-season where the fans have been able to vote for their favorite Ducks players throughout the team’s history. In what can hardly be described as an upset, Justin Davies was announced as the fans pick as the #1 Duck of all time. Congratulations to Davies, it’s certainly a well-deserved honor.

The Blog Is Back In Town: Just wanted to apologize to everyone for the blog being down for the past day or so. Blogger has been having some server issues, so rest assured that it wasn’t anything we were doing. I even had a few fans e-mail me asking for news updates, to which I happily obliged. I know a lot of you look forward to the news posts, as well as the random thoughts from Scott and myself, such as my picks for American Idol (Chris, Elliott, Katharine or Taylor). So I’m glad it’s back, and I hope you are too. – Mike Ashmore

Strauss A Coach: Brad Strauss has officially become the Camden Riversharks hitting coach for the 2006 season. – Scott Stanchak.
