Barnstormer Trade Details: The Lancaster Barnstormers last week traded pitcher Chris Zallie to the Somerset Patriots for pitcher Scott Sobkowiak. The Barnstormers today said that they don’t have an agreement with Sobkowiak, but the possibility of him signing with the team is still there. Zallie, however, will join the Patriots and I expect to speak with him in the next few days.

Santora In: Newark Bears second baseman Jack Santora made team Italy and will play in the World Baseball Classic. Santora has experience in the Arizona Diamondbacks, Philadelphia Phillies and San Diego Padres organizations.

Becker Signs: Brian Becker had a great season last year, but didn’t catch the eye of any major-league organizations. Instead, he signed a deal with the St. Paul Saints of the Northern League. That’s a big loss for the Atlantic League and the Nashua Pride. Then again, didn’t matter anyway since the Pride are out of the league.

I think it’s good Becker signed with the Saints because the Northern League and Atlantic League are of a far better quality than the Can-Am League — where the Pride moved for 2006. Too bad he couldn’t have signed with an A.L. team, but some rights swapping would have had to happen. I wonder if his rights were traded to the Saints or if he was just released by the Pride. – Scott Stanchak.

Are You Pondering What I’m Pondering?: The AP thought so much of this transaction, they list it as follows: “Signed 1B Brain Becker”

If it truly was an expansion draft, there’s no doubt in my mind that Becker’s rights were donated to…ummm, I mean acquired by either the Barnstormers or Ducks, but the odds of me actually getting that information out of either team are about as good as my chances of a date with Lauren Graham. – Mike Ashmore
