Pats Take 1-0 Series Lead: Greg Modica got the ball for the Patriots tonight and did not disappoint, outdueling Nashua starter Mike Marchesano to lead the Patriots to a 5-3 win. Modica kept Nashua hitters off-balance all night with a dazzling array of offspeed pitches throughout his seven innings of work.

Jeremy Owens did the damage for Somerset, with his home run to left field in the bottom of the fifth putting the Patriots ahead for good. Owens, who entered the game 0-for-the playoffs, barely hooked the ball inside the left field fair pole.

Mark Difelice picked up the unlikely save for the Patriots, as it was DiFelice who was the starter for Game 1 of the Surf series. Never the less, he went two innings and got pinch hitter Jimmy Hurst to strike out on three fastballs to end the game…Hurst was the tying run.

Game Two takes place in Somerset with a 7:05 PM start. Games three, four and five will all take place in Nashua…that is, of course, if the latter two games are necessary.

Nashua will likely send Denny Harriger to the mound for Game 2, with Joe Gannon going in Game 3, Nate Teut in Game 4 and Pete Hartmann in Game 5.
