Ducks, Patriots get new pitching coaches: What an odd series of events that have transpired over the past 24 hours. Here’s the short version of a long story – Jeff Scott is out as Ducks pitching coach, as Dave Lapoint has become the new (old) pitching coach. The Patriots then signed Scott to be their pitching coach.

I’ve been accused of kissing up to the Patriots front office from time to time, but I don’t think you’ll be seeing any of that here. Nothing against Scott, but I don’t think he can be viewed as a long term solution. Marketing is as important to the Patriots as it is to any franchise in the league, and they’d be much better suited to have a bigger name in that position.

As for exactly what happened in the John Montefusco situation, I wouldn’t expect that information to come out any time soon. It’s entirely possible that there might not be anything to it, but I’m still miffed at the timing of it.

Not to crap on the league’s parade, but… : In their press release announcing that they’d set a new attendance record, they failed to mention how embarassing it would have been if they didn’t. You see, this is the first time that all eight teams in the league have had a home, therefore the spike in attendance. If they’re able to send out the same press release next year, then I’ll be impressed.

Bears Out: By virtue of the Bears losing and the Ducks winning last night, the Bears become the second team eliminated from playoff contention. Again, this team was out of it long ago as well.

Clontz to return?: The Courier-News Geoff Mosher reports that the team expects to know by Friday whether reliever Brad Clontz will return to the team. Hopefully they have a lot more in the works than just Clontzie, because he alone will not be enough to bring this pitching staff back to where it once was.

Night Update – It’s believed that Clontz would be the only one of the Patriots players who left to return, if he even returns at all.

Dattola available?: Interestingly enough, the New Jersey Jackals released former Patriots OF Kevin Dattola today, along with IF Benji Gil. The playoff roster deadline is tomorrow. Hmmm…
