Drew Called Up: The Arizona Diamondbacks have called up INF Stephen Drew. Drew played for the Riversharks this season while holding out for a better contract, a deal he ultimately did not receive.

Bears acquire OF: The Newark Bears acquired OF Darren Ciraco in a “trade” with the Can-Am League’s Grays. Ciraco was drafted by the White Sox in 2000 and spent four seasons in their organization, never advancing past A-Ball. The New York native played for New Jersey and New Haven in what was then known as the Northeast League before joining the Grays in 2005.

Modica back: With his name resurfacing in a Patriots game recap, it’s safe to assume that either Patriots P Greg Modica never went to Taiwan or had a very, very short stay of it.

Dattola activates self, plays for Jackals: Former Somerset Patriots OF Kevin Dattola, now the hitting coach for Can-Am League’s New Jersey Jackals needed a hitter to fill out the lineup for the remainder of the season. So he did the logical thing…he signed himself. That’s right, Dattola joins the ranks of five other former Atlantic Leaguers (Ricardo Cordova, Elvis Corporan, Marty Janzen, Francisco Lebron and Shawn Morgan) and three former big leaguers (Joel Bennett, Benji Gil and Janzen) to finish out the season with New Jersey. Dattola is 2-for-6 in 2 games with 2 RBI. – Mike Ashmore

Patterson Returns: Lancaster Barnstormers pitcher Scott Patterson, a favorite of Ashmore, returned to the Lancaster Barnstormers and picked up a save in today’s game. – Scott Stanchak.
