Chris Eickhorst, Pitcher: The Newark Bears signed former Somerset Patriots catcher Chris Eickhorst and are using him as a pitcher. Eick got the save in his first appearance for the Bears and first as a pitcher in their 10-7 win tonight.

Quintana becomes Bears All-Time HR King: In a tumultuous season that saw Bears slugger Wil Quintana get suspended for a violation of the league’s drug and substance abuse policy, there was some light at the end of the tunnel. Quintana’s 57th home run as a Bear Thursday night gave him the Bears franchise lead in home runs, passing Peto Ramirez.

10Q Update: I caught up with former Newark Bears pitcher Calvin Maduro in Trenton yesterday. Maduro is now pitching for the Double-A Trenton Thunder, an affiliate of the New York Yankees. With Hall of Famer Reggie Jackson standing on the same field, yes I did find it odd that I was looking to interview Maduro, but he certainly didn’t disappoint. I’m sure you’ll enjoy it.

Also, today, I talked to Willis Otanez of the Bluefish. Otanez played for Baltimore in 1998 and 1999 and also played for Toronto in ’99.

As for when the actual Ten Questions will be posted, I’m not real sure. I also did my longest Ten Questions yet with Willie Banks the other day, it lasted over 38 minutes. Take into account that about 10 minutes of audio takes roughly an hour to put onto paper, and you’d be a little hesitant to start work on that too. They’ll be done, just be patient.

No Dante Bichette until September?: His son, Dante Jr., has just advanced to the Little league World Series with his Florida team. If you’ve ever talked to Dante, you know how important his family is to him, so I’d be surprised to see him anywhere until September, if at all.

Affiliation Update: My update is now posted.

Thanks: Special thanks to Jim Cerny of the Bears for all of his help during Newark’s series in Somerset.- Mike Ashmore
