Otanez Back: Michael Fornabaio of The Connecticut Post reports that the team has signed Willis Otanez to a contract. Otanez, who was played with the Bluefish in previous seasons, comes to Bridgeport after seeing his team get swept out of the Mexican League playoffs. The 32 year old native of Puerto Rico brings two seasons of big league time to the team, something you all know how much I just hate…

Otanez played in 1998 and 1999 for the Baltimore Orioles, was claimed off of waivers by the Blue Jays in 1999 and finished out the season with them. He’s a career .236 hitter in the big leagues, with 7 HR and 24 RBI to his name.

Matos Off The Market: P Josue Matos, rumored to be headed to Somerset, was signed by the Philadelphia Phillies and assigned to their Double-A affiliate in Reading. The signing comes at a bad time for Somerset, who are still looking for pitching. – Mike Ashmore

Former First-Rounder: Former 9th overall pick Mark Phillips could sign with the Nashua Pride before the season is over. He had a tryout with the Lancaster Barnstormers before the season, which he threw horribly.

Phillips, a former top prospect who was drafted by the San Diego Padres and then later traded to the New York Yankees, has had several mechanical and mental problems over the past few years. – Scott Stanchak.
