North wins All-Star Game: The North beat the South, 9-6, in the 8th annual Atlantic League All-Star Game. Almost 6,000 fans saw Newark Bears infielder Jerson Perez take home the MVP honors in Atlantic City, with his two run home run in the fifth inning giving the North the lead for good.

Bridgeport’s Josh Miller picked up the win and the Surf’s Aaron Kirkland the loss. Another Bluefish pitcher, Dan Krines, got the save.

Dominick Ambrosini, Lance Burkhart and Ryan Minor also homered in the game.

Delgado repeats as HR Derby Champ: Atlantic City Surf slugger Dario Delgado claimed the $1,000 prize for the second year in a row, winning this year’s Century 21 Home Run Derby. He narrowly edged out Somerset’s own Ryan Radmanovich to take the title.

Once A Bear, Always a Bear: Unless, of course, you’re on a tacky reality show…in which case, I doubt the organization wants anything to do with you. Such is the case with Jose Canseco and VH1’s The Surreal Life. This is not a show for kids, as clips of future episodes showed Jose in rather scantily clad outfits, including women’s clothing. Interesting life choice there. Much like Mike Tyson, his fall into the non-existent state of “bolivion” is being played out in front of the cameras, but Tyson wasn’t surrounded by the likes of Bronson Pinchot and other H-list celebrities. Balky Bartakamos getting it done, awesome. – Mike Ashmore
