Gannon Gone: According to a source, the Newark Bears released pitcher Joe Gannon. Gannon, who no-hit the Somerset Patriots last season, is garnering interest from Somerset and with their rotation needing some arms, it wouldn’t be a suprise to see him there after the All-Star break.

(I’d been hearing some rumblings about this a few days ago, and posted them in this site at that time. I agree with Scott in saying that he’d be a perfect fit for Somerset, but I think any team that picks him up will use a short leash considering his performance this year. – MA)

Signing With The Devil: Former Bears pitcher Joe Borowski signed with the Tampa Bay Devil Rays today. He had been pitching with the Chicago Cubs, but was recovering from injuries and not faring well. – Scott Stanchak.

(The Devil Rays are MLB’s equivalent to an Atlantic League team, so Borowski should fit in well there. -MA)

AL Scoreboard: The Ducks beat the Barnstormers, 4-2. Todd Erdos picked up his 18th save of the year. I’m pretty surprised he’s still here.

All-Star Game to be broadcast online: While I’m still undecided about whether I’ll be attending the game, for those who definitely aren’t going, the league has announced that Riversharks broadcaster Landon Sears will call the game online. Very, very interesting that one of the more veteran guys of the league isn’t doing it this year. – Mike Ashmore
