Tollberg signed: Somerset Patriots pitcher Brian Tollberg, recently named June’s Pitcher of the Month, has been signed by the Houston Astros and will report to Triple-A Round Rock after the All-Star break. Scott Sobkowiak and Dave Elder seem to be ready to go at any time as well…

All-Star Game Backups: Keeping in mind that there seems to be a mass exodus of guys from the rosters just days before the midsummer classic, here’s a list of All-Star reserves:

C, Mike Torres, Nashua
1B, Raul Marcano, Lancaster (released)
2B, Emiliano Escandon, Somerset
3B, Lipso Nava, Camden
OF, Quincy Foster, Lancaster
OF, Chris Latham, Long Island
OF, Gary Burnham, Bridgeport.

Dominick Ambrosini was also on the list, but he’s since been named to the team. These players ARE NOT on the team, but might be if someone bows out or gets signed.

AL Scoreboard: The Somerset Patriots are a win (or a Camden loss) away from clinching a playoff spot after winning 6-4 tonight over the Surf. Back to back home runs by Ryan Radmanovich and Todd Betts led the Patriots to their come from behind win. Radman had two bombs tonight. Brad Clontz evened his record to 3-3 with 2.1 scoreless innings of relief.

Camden beat Bridgeport, 3-2, in 10 innings. Vic Gutierrez won the game in the bottom of the 10th with an RBI single. Tim Cain went nine innings for the Bluefish, but did not factor in the decision.

Lancaster at Newark: Rained out.

Nashua at Long Island: Rained out.

Ball Suspended: Surf manager Jeff Ball wasn’t in the dugout tonight, so that leads me to believe he’s been suspended for his role in a bench clearing incident in Camden the other day. No word on how long the suspension is for.

Pride Signing: The Nashua Pride signed LHP Tom Klemm today. Klemm, a New Hampshire native, pitched in three games for Nashua last season. He played his college ball at St. John’s.

He was awful last year, I have no reason to believe he won’t be this year, either. I mean, I’d like to see everyone do well, I just don’t see it happening here.

2004 Stats: 3 G, 1.1 IP, 5 H, 4 ER, 3 BB, 0 K. 0-0, 27.00 ERA.

So as I figured, they signed none of those guys I brought up the other day…

10Q Update: My Ten Questions with Stephen Larkin is now posted. It features photographs from both myself and Bluefish pitcher Pat Ahearne, so it’s worth checking out for that alone.

Also, Tom Goodwin and I sat down for an epic Ten Questions which lasted over 35 minutes before today’s game. That might take a while to put on paper, but keep your eyes peeled for that feature in the near future. – Mike Ashmore
