The Florida Marlins have recalled P Jim Crowell. Crowell, the former Atlantic City Surf pitcher, pitched for the Phillies last season.

Lancaster fans, the first Ten Questions of the year has been posted, and it’s with one of your players. P Troy Mattes is my first 10Q subject since September, and he was quite a good one. Make sure you check it out, along with a 10Q with Patriots P Brett Jodie as well, with that one coming very soon. This one is a must-read, Jodie gave me some really interesting quotes about his time in the big leagues and his thoughts on affiliated ball.

The Newark Bears (4-0) are off to their best start in franchise history after a 7-5 win in Atlantic City. Darryl Roque got the win and Jake Brooks got the save for the Bears.

The Barnstormers will try to take three of four from Somerset tomorrow afternoon after beating them 4-3 in a soggy contest. I was at this one, and there was a lengthy rain delay in around the 6th inning with the Patriots leading, 3-2. Unfortunately for Somerset, they got back to playing and Lancaster scored two runs and pulled out the win. I’m unsure whether this is an indication of how good Lancaster will be or how not so good Somerset will be. I still stick with 55 wins for Lancaster.

The game between the Riversharks and the Nashua Pride has been postponed due to rain. The game has been rescheduled as part of a doubleheader on Saturday, June 18th, beginning at 5:30 pm.

The Ducks-Bluefish game in Bridgeport was also postponed due to fog and inclement weather. The game has been rescheduled for tomorrow, May 1 at 12:05 p.m. as part of a doubleheader. The Ducks and the Bluefish will play two seven-inning games.

Scott’s Update:

A source tells ALB that the Bridgeport Bluefish are expecting former major-leaguer Hector Mercado and pitcher Eddy Ramos to join the team very shortly. SS Tony Rodriguez is also reportedly not too happy in his back up role to start the season…

Nashua is in contact with James Lofton. Also, Pat Howell, recovering from off-season surgery, will be in Nashua to workout with the team to see how he is progressing. Howell is a huge help and motivating factor in the clubhouse and as a player/coach. He gives Hobson someone to have on the road with Bill Twomey only helping out with home games. Howell may not be activated, but you may see him coaching first or third and working with the club on the road. – Scott Stanchak.
