John Rocker is a Long Island Duck. It’s as simple as that. Today, in a story that was first reported and only reported here, the rumors were confirmed and the former Braves reliever is now a Long Island Duck.

Rocker, who has pitched for the Braves, Indians, Rangers and Devil Rays, is probably best known for the iffy remarks he made about New Yorkers while with Atlanta. He’ll now be pitching in New York, just a handful of miles away from the people he spoke down on just several years ago.

I’ll be very interested to see what the fan reaction to Rocker is like in Long Island. I know John’s done his best to put the past behind him, and I had a very positive personal experience with him several years ago, so I can only hope the reaction is positive.I think Rocker will be a positive addition to the Ducks roster, but I’m unsure as to how long he’ll last. Surely the success of Bill Pulsipher impacted the decision of Rocker. One need only look at the St. Louis Cardinals roster for proof of that…

The Nashua Pride have signed four more players, three of them new to the team. The Pride signed 1B Kevin Haverbusch, SS Pete Shier, 3B-OF Shane Hopper and P Mark LaRosa…

The Newark Bears re-signed outfielder Wil Quintana. The 26 year-old Quintana first joined the Bears in the middle of the 2002 season after being acquired from the Pennsylvania Road Warriors and hit 21 home runs in helping the Bears capture the 2002 Atlantic League championship…

The Lancaster Barnstormers signed two former Road Warriors today, RHP Edisbel Benetiz and INF Ramiro Chamizo, both of whom are from Cuba. – Mike Ashmore w/ Scott Stanchak.
