According to The Lancaster Intelligencer Journal, the Barnstormers have 10 players under contract. Among the previously unreported signings are: INF Travis Hake, P Ross Peoples and P Juan Figueroa. Both P’s Cliff Smith and Clint Smith, added by the team in the expansion draft, are also listed as signed as well. Director of Baseball Ops. Keith Lupton told the paper, “A lot of teams’ philosophies are to go with older guys with major-league experience. I wouldn’t turn that down, but I get excited about young arms that have already shown some success.” Hopefully there’s a backup plan in Lancaster, because the leagues that these players are being signed out of are not on par with the Atlantic League, and people will only pay to see “no-name” players for so long. I do, however, give them a lot of credit for signing Ryan Minor, who is the perfect choice for the face of the franchise. Former Long Island Ducks outfielder Kimera Bartee was named a coach in the Baltimore Orioles system. – Scott Stanchak w/ Mike Ashmore.
